Запустил сбор средств на разработку открытого драйвера для принтеров Canon и Pantum, в котором предлагается профинансировать создание со следующими условиями:
Goals
Depending on the funds collected:
- Optimal ($1200+): 10+ Canon and Pantum printers covering different series and generations
- Good ($700+): 5-6 Canon and Pantum printers from some series, which ones are to be decided based on further driver reverse-engineering work
- OK ($350+): 3-4 Canon UFR-II models only, no Pantum
- Small ($200+): 1 Canon UFR-II-CAPT model and 1 Canon UFR-II-JBIG model, limited testing
- Not enough (<$200): Work not started, refunds issued
Money is collected only up to “Optimal” goal, no more. The funding will be stopped once this amount is collected.
Deliverables
- CUPSv2-compatible filter in C, and PPD .drv printer description. License: GPLv2.
- “Small” goal: Selected Canon UFR-II models only
- “OK” goal: Majority of Canon UFR-II models
- “Good”, “Optimal” goal: Canon UFR-II and Pantum
- Linux and macOS compatibility
- Forward-compatible with CUPSv3 + PAPPL-retrofit
- Finished software (no maintenance, occasional bug fixes only)
Is that a donation?
No, it’s a targeted fundraising campaign with a designated goal.
Donations are given to a person and can be spent for anything not directly related to the project, like food, transportation, entertainment.
Targeted funding, on the other hand, is used only for a specific purpose, for the hardware in this case. Your money is spent only to deliver a working and tested driver. The reverse-engineering and reimplementation labor is “free”.

Поражён, раздосадован. Был уверен если не в успехе кампании, то хотя бы в способствовании её продвижению.
The campaign is also designed to check for social demand for open-source drivers.
