Объявлено о выходе третьего и последнего релиз-кандидата Slackware 15.0. На данный момент заявляется о 99% стабилизированных пакетов, работа идёт в основном в поиске регрессий или других отчетах об ошибках, которые можно было бы исправить до того, как сборка станет стабильной.
Конечно, Пат и соратники оставляют за собой право делать исключения... как например версия ядра 5.15.15, которая по его мнению звучит неплохо для Slackware 15.
Также Пат сетует на немного запоздавшие запросы от пользователей и пожелания которые «просто выходят за рамки основного дерева», где разработчики предпочитают максимально придерживаться принципа YAGNI («Вам это не понадобится»).
В любом случае, после некоторых тестов, нам обещают, спустя почти 6 лет с выхода предыдущей стабильной версии, обновленный Slackware Linux. В общем наслаждайтесь! :-)


Напомню, что Slackware - старейший из ныне живущих дистрибутивов, первый релиз 1.00 вышел 17 июля 1993 г. Основатель дистрибутива - Патрик Фолькердинг (родился 20 октября 1966 г). За основу Slackware был взят Softlanding Linux System (SLS). SLS появился в 1992 году и его также можно считать старейшим Linux дистрибутивом. SLS содержал не только Ядро Linux, но и некоторые утилиты, GNU Emacs, а также реализацию X Window System (графический интерфейс X11).
У Slackware нет графического инсталлятора. Установка проходит в текстовом режиме. В процессе установки пользователь может сам выбрать пакеты и полностью контролирует процесс установки.

AP в этом списке только из-за ap/slackpkg и рассказывать, как его поставить в уже установленную компанию A, L, N несколько дольше, чем просто предложить добавить AP ;)

Yeah, the tree is done and what you see up right now with the exception of the ChangeLog and some documentation is exactly what will be released as Slackware 15.0. I meant to have it public today but it got late and the folks on the other side of the Atlantic needed sleep. Since I can, I’m going to keep testing ISOs here to make sure everything’s correct. It’ll all go live tomorrow - see you then. :-)

To make a bootable Slackware install DVD, get into the top level Slackware
directory (The one with ChangeLog.txt in it) and issue a command like this
to build the ISO image in /tmp:

xorriso -as mkisofs \
  -iso-level 3 \

  -R -J -A "Slackware Install" \
  -hide-rr-moved \
  -v -d -N \
  -eltorito-boot isolinux/isolinux.bin \

  -isohybrid-mbr /usr/share/syslinux/isohdpfx.bin \

  -volid "SlackDVD" \
  -output /tmp/slackware-dvd.iso \

On my system, here's the command I'd use to burn the resulting DVD ISO:

growisofs -speed=2 -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=slackware-dvd.iso

If your burner is not /dev/sr0, replace the device with the one your
system uses.

Another too-long development cycle is behind us after we bit off more than
we could chew and then had to shine it up to a high-gloss finish. Hopefully
we've managed to get the tricky parts out of the way so that we'll be able
to see a 15.1 incremental update after a far shorter development cycle.
Certainly the development infrastructure has been streamlined here and things
should be easier moving forward. My thanks to the rest of the Slackware team,
all the upstream developers who have given us such great building materials,
the folks on LinuxQuestions.org and elsewhere for all the help with testing,
great suggestions, and countless bug fixes, and to everyone who helped
support this project so that the release could finally see the light of day.
I couldn't have done any of this without your help, and I'm grateful to all
of you. Thanks!

Anyone who has followed Linux development over the years has seen the new technology and a slow but steady drift away from the more UNIX-like structure. The challenge this time around was to adopt as much of the good stuff out there as we could without changing the character of the operating system. Keep it familiar, but make it modern.

Скоро. Ветка в git следовала за будущей 15.0 последние года 3, её публикация какого-то существенного времени не займёт. Пока не опубликована как 15.0, её (ponce) можно продолжать использовать для 15.0 (ex. current).
