Дай кусок /etc/X11/xorg.conf, а точнее секцию про Device
Например:

Да, конфиг забыл запостить. Кидаю. Пользователь в группе video есть (он там по умолчанию и был). xorg.conf у юзера в ~/ нет.

Поправь Mode на 0666 и все будет работать.

Поправил - всё еще не работает. Вот warnings, которые есть в /var/log/Xorg.0.log, может чем помогут:
