Изучаю исходник ядра 2.6.17

Встречаю kernel/exit.c строка 211:

Уже написана функция, надо понимать функция както работает. Есть коментарий к функции. Как егоправильно понимать? "I ask you, have you ever known what it is to be an orphan?"
