винчестер склеивает ласты?

имеется usb винт WD My Book на 500 гигов, отформаченный в ext3. довольно длительное время все работало ОК, но вот вчера, внезапно, не получилось удалить с него с первого раза файл на 40 гигов. отключил винт, включил обратно - все работает отлично, файл удалился. запустил fsck. в логи посыпалось вот такое :

и винт в это время начинает так постукивать головами. fsck прибить никак не получается, только выдергиванием usb шнурка. после отключения питания от дивайса с последующим подключением, удалось опять завести винт и сбэкапить всю инфу с него. затем, попробовал опять запустить fsck, та же хрень.. что делать? винту таки пришел капец?

причем файлы с винта нормально сливаются (даже по 4-6 гигов размером), но fsck начинет стучать головами и сыпать в dmesg матом через секунд 10 после запуска..
на запись тестировать что-то страшновато.

а можно что-то еще сделать? десктопа у меня нет, только ноуты - так что разобрать коробку и подцепить винт не получится :(( хотя, на одном ноуте есть e-sata - существуют ли соотв. переходники? в коробке вроде как sata винт...
