Back to Python 3.9, which seems to be the best version to use at this time.

Good afternoon Slackware users! After careful consideration, and in spite of the results of the poll, I've decided that it's in the best interests of a stable 15.0 release to switch things back to Python 3.9 and take on Python 3.10 again some time in the next development cycle when the Python ecosystem has stabilized around it. I don't recall any major issues a year ago when we switched from Python 3.8 to Python 3.9, but Python 3.9 didn't throw errors on commonly used (but deprecated) functions like Python 3.10 is doing. And bug reports continue to come in... we don't want to ship a long-awaited stable release that would certainly contain Python 3.10 related problems.
It looks like to get Python 3.10 stable would require waiting an unknown amount of time, and also would probably require eradicating Python 2 from the distribution once and for all, since some of the components getting bugfixes for Python 3.10 are dropping Python 2 support at the same time. Now, I'd agree getting rid of the EOL Python 2 is a noble goal, but much like stabilizing Python 3.10 it's not something to take on as we're trying to finalize a release. I don't believe the continued presence of some Python 2 software constitutes a security weakness (not for what we're using it for, anyway), and isn't a problem for the 15.0 release, but getting rid of it soon in the next development cycle *will* be a priority.
Weighing heavily on this decision are the opinions of folks like ponce, alienBOB, nobodino, and Didier Spaier, as well as ongoing issues such as the wrench thrown into PyQt5 and dependencies.
While I apologize for letting this more-than-likely ill-advised experiment go on for three weeks, I don't think the efforts have been wasted. As far as I'm aware, the changes made to help with Python 3.10 are all perfectly compatible with Python 3.9, so we've managed to get ahead of the game a bit.
Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll and/or provided an opinion. I hope most of you will agree that this is the best path forward to get back on track towards a stable release with as few bugs as possible.```
