История изменений

Составил списочек причин для глагны:

• The upstream developers are Dana Jansens and Mikael Magnusson. Dana takes no part in the development since 2015. Mikael occasionally writes some code, but that’s all.
• The latest release (3.6.1) was in 2015. No maintenance releases since that time. Distribution maintainers have to maintain bug-fix and compatibility patches for openbox at the distribution level for this reason. We have no feedback from the upstream and no collaboration.
• The latest commit in the upstream master branch was in 2018.
• Mikael does some work in a couple of separate branches for several years, but no information is available about the future plans and no public roadmap.
• Data wrote in 2017: «I haven’t had the motive to make changes to it when it’s working well enough. There’s of course some nice patches, or forks and pull requests around for things, which you can play with if u are a DYI’er.»
• A request to issue a maintenance release in 2018 was ignored by the developers.
• No active forks of the project targeting the regular release cycle and community engagement seems to be at the moment.

Никого убеждать не надо. Просто создайте свой форк репозитория, сливайте туда актуальные патчи, на которые забил upstream, добавьте свой пакет хотя бы в AUR – и если так будет продолжаться какое-то время, то ваш форк сам станет upstream, т.е. люди сами к вам придут.

Это и есть убеждать. Было бы намного проще, если Mikachu сконвертировал свой репозиторий в профиль организации и пригласил бы туда тех, кто готов заниматься патчами, фиксить баги, делать релизы.
