If I remember right from my testing, the Z8612 drops out at 2.52 to 2.56 volts per 2 cells with NiMH batteries, which is not far from their fully charged voltage of 2.68 volts per 2 cells.  It does work great with KLIC-8000 Lithium batteries or equivalent, which have a fully charged voltage of 4.2 volts per pack and 3 volts when discharged.  Nickel Zinc rechargeable cells at 3.5 volts per pair will also work.

Remember that Brand X batteries from China/Taiwan via Ebay are sure to have only half the advertised capacity.  They're good if you can live with that for the lower price though.
