Давай проще.
# glxinfo
И смотрим на строчку direct rendering: yes

Если она no, идем в гугл, и ищем ответ как ПРАВИЛЬНо ставить нативные
(то бишь ati) дрова.

Если она yes, смотрим какую либу тащит quake и нет ли у нас
в системе лишних (а тащит почему-то mesa).
